Jimmy Carters campaign was focused on the people. He wanted to build a trust between the citizens and the government. He wanted to do what the people wanted and not just give them false hopes. He wanted to improve the tax system. He thought that it was unfair. He wanted to not waste taxes and to be efficient with them. He believed he could solve America's tax problems. Before Presidency: Jimmy Carter, actual name James Earl Carter Jr., was born October 1, 1924, in Plains, Georgia. His upbringing consisted of consistent talks of politics, his father’s peanut business, and his devotion to the Baptist faith. In 1946 he graduated from the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, soon after marrying Rosalynn Smith. The Carters have three sons, John William (Jack), James Earl III (Chip), Donnel Jeffrey (Jeff), and a daughter, Amy Lynn. He spent seven years in the service as a naval officer, and then returned to Plains, Georgia. In 1962 he entered state politics, and eight years later was elected Governor of Georgia. Jimmy Carter attracted attention by emphasizing ecology, efficiency in government, and the removal of racial barriers among the new young southern governors.
During Presidency: Jimmy Carter worked hard during his Presidency to help the people.He tried to fix the economic problems that had accumulated.By the end of his term he accomplished an increase of eight million jobs and a decrease in budget deficit.However, inflation rates reached an all time high near the end of his presidency.He also established a national energy policy, and also sought to improve transportation. He also sought to protect the environment by preserving over 100 million acres of land in Alaska.He also human and social services by making a Department of Education, increasing social security, and appointing minorities, such as blacks, Hispanics and women, to government jobs. In foreign affairs he focused on human rights.The Soviet Union didn’t take kindly to this.His negotiations with SALT II treaty helped to limit the amount of nuclear weapons.He helped bring peace between Israel and Egypt.He also helped in ratifying the Panama Canal treaty.However, some drawbacks include: Soviet invasion into Afghanistan (this delayed the ratification of the SALT II treaty), seizure of the U.S. embassy staff in Iran as hostages, consequences of Iran’s holding American hostages (which they eventually released 52 days after Carter left office).
After Presidency:
After the course of his presidency he has written twenty-two books now in revised condition on many political topics from after his presidency.In 1982, he became Professor at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and founded The Carter Center. This nonpartisan and nonprofit Center deals with national and international issues of public policy. Carter Center associates, and staff join with President Carter in efforts to resolve conflict, promote democracy, protect human rights, and prevent disease and other afflictions. Through the Global 2000 programs, the Center advances health and agriculture in the developing world. It has lead in the international effort to eradicate Guinea worm disease, which will be the second disease in history to be eliminated.
